Pumpkin Carving Contest and the Barn Raising (aka Fall Festival)

Nothing says “Fall” better than pumpkins…so the Houses had the 2nd Annual House Pumpkin Carving Contest during their most recent House meeting.  Each House had 4 pumpkins to carve and/or decorate any way they would like.

Each House leader had their own strategy of how to divide their members and use the time wisely.  And some unnamed Houses Advisors enjoyed taking a little “peak” into each of the other House meetings to evaluate the competition.

House Audacia’s pumpkins

House Fides’ pumpkins

House Sapientia’s pumpkins

And the Winners ARE…

Fides “Pirate Ship” – 1st Place  (30pts)

House Sapientia – “Cinderella Carriage” pumpkin – 2nd Place (20pts)

House Audacia – “Throw up” pumpkin – 3rd Place (10pts)

Honorable Mentions…

This year in the spirit of the construction on the new building, CCS Admin changed the name of the Fall Festival to a Barn Raising.

There were all sorts of games, activities, events, and food for the students and their families to enjoy.  (Cow milking contest, Jacob’s ladder, Giant slide, Hayrides, Face Painting, and mechanical Bull riding)

Various vendors also set up tables with their products.  And the different classes grouped together to create some fun games like a hula hoop ring toss on pumpkins, giant checkers, corn hole, and “bobbing for candy pumpkins” in whipped cream.

And kids of all ages enjoyed the pony and horse rides.

The Juniors sponsored a Jail to raise money for Prom.  Many students and teachers were sent to jail!

Bryson, Sawyer, and Jeremy showed their leadership and great attitudes as they allowed students to attempt to dunk them. (Each received 15pts for their House for their school spirit and willing to get wet in the cold!)

The event concluded with a cake walk, silent auction, and an hour of line dancing enjoyed by all –those dancing and those watching.

Houses with members volunteering to serve received community service points.  Audacia 36pts, Fides 60pts, Sapientia 36pts

Current Point Standings for 1st qtr:

Spirit Week – Pancakes, Pep Rally, and Fall Dance

Spirit Week kicked off with Student Government hosting a pancake breakfast!  All went as according to plan – lots of tickets sold, yummy pancakes, and happy costumers.  But we did have a first (or as I like to call it – a memory making experience) … CCS had an early morning visit from the Fire Department! With so many amazing cooks in the kitchen, the smoke from butter in skillets and from food left on burners reached the height of the smoke alarms.  But never fear – all checked out fine and no pancakes (or students) were harmed in all the excitement.  🙂

Each day of the week had a theme.  Monday was “Country vs. Country Club.”
The Spirit Court winners for the day (chosen by Mrs. Prince) were Emma Lawing and Weston Cregger.

Tuesday was “Dynamic Duo” or Group day.  (Sadly I do not have many pictures from this creative theme day.)
One of the two Spirit Court winners of the day was The Office gang.  The other winners not pictures were Byrson Rose and Michael Merrill.

Wednesday,  was Tie-Dye Day.  The Spirit Court winners were Lee Williamson and Peyton McClelland.

Thursday was Career Day.  It was so exciting to see how many future doctors, reporters, forensic detectives, artists, and service men and women we hope to come out of the Upper School.

The Spirit Court winners for the day were Garret Cox and Emma Stapleton.

Friday’s theme was BLACK OUT!  And the school day ended with a PEP RALLY!
The SG President, Cameron Warner, introduced all the students on all the Volleyball and Cross Country teams.

And of course there was lots of cheering/screaming during the silly/fun games.

But the week of fun didn’t stop there.  Student Government hosted the Fall Dance at the Propst Farm! Thank you Propst Family for being so gracious and generous with your beautiful property!!

The dance had a fall camping theme and was called “A Night Under the Stars.”
It had the highest attendance numbers for a Fall dance in several years.

Even the chaperones had fun! 🙂
