Christmas Fun at CCS

The House Gingerbread competition continued this year, but due to time and interest we only had one gingerbread house per House. It’s amazing what the students can create in a short amount of time!!

1st Place – House Sapientia – “Sapientia Blue Light Christmas Cabin” (40 points)

2nd Place – House Fides – “Covenant Christmas Cabin” (30 points)

3rd Place – House Audacia – “Christmas Cabin” (20 points)

4th Place – House Constantia – “Cabin at the Beach” (10 points)

The CCS Ugly Christmas Sweater Competition is always a lot of fun to see and judge.

Winners for the most “creative or crafty” sweater – Audacia’s Lilly Allen and Anna Booth

Winner for Tackiest Sweater – Tyler Hicks (Audacia) and the Winner for the Ugliest sweater – Ryan Gasparrini (Constantia)

The 7th-12th grade classes decided to compete in the Christmas door competition! The judges were Mrs. Thipgen and Mrs. Russell and the prize was donuts for the class!

House Audacia decided to get together to celebrate Christmas at the Benham’s home. From the pictures it looks like a roaring good time was had.

And the CCS 7th-12th grade moms continued the tradition of the “Ornament Exchange/Steal Party” at the Hudson home. We picked a day/time that was difficult for many of the moms to attend, but those that could make it laughed until it hurt!

And of course there were some simple, non-embarrassing, competitive games to win additional ornaments to keep, exchange, or steal.

And lots of food and fellowship! This is such a sweet time to celebrate our precious community of upper school mamas. AND in case you didn’t know, the moms earn points for their student’s House every time they attend events, donate food to events, etc. So there are many reasons for the WHOLE family to stay involved at CCS!! AND it is FUN!!

Speaking of fun…we all know our CCS teachers are true GIFTS! Below one of our teachers recently and literally became a gift. For fun and some House points for proving to Mrs. H that you read this email to the end, send Mrs. Haycox an email or text if you think you know who the teacher wrapped as a gift is! (3 pts for reading and guessing and 5pts if you guess correctly!)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

Bowling fun, Movie night, a SABM Hike, and a dissection – OH MY!

The CCS Houses and Clubs know how to make memories during 2nd Quarter! With so much going on, I missed sending out separate posts for each event and so this post is a summary!

House Constantia hosted their first social event – a fun Bowling event at Foxfire Lanes! Hopefully this will become a tradition.

I, for one, want to see Constantia’s President, Andrew Faircloth, perform his trick bowling move again…and for those of you that missed it, check out the video below.

House Sapientia continued their tradition of hosting fun movie nights, but this time they moved the event into the Commons instead of the gym. From the student feedback, everyone liked the Commons much better, as it felt more like a movie theater. The movie choice was great too – Into the Spiderverse!

Our Clubs have been having fun too! SABM’s Advisor, Mr. Morton, taught the guys the tricks and techniques to grilling a perfect steak. Not only did it smell yummy, but all the guys had the chance to partake in the goodness!

And the first weekend in December the SABM guys went on a hike of Crowder’s Mountain! And after the hike the went to the Rose’s home for pizza and games!

The ladies know how to have fun too! (If you consider dissection fun! HA!) The Anatomy and Physiology Club (which happens to have all girl members) dissected pigs during their most recent club meeting.

Canned Food Drive

House Fides and House Constantia partnered together to organize a canned food drive during the month of November. The Grammar school classes were paired with an Upper school class to compete for the most amount of cans collected.

Mrs. Mahaley’s 3rd grade class collected the most cans and were rewarded with some doughnuts as a thank you! All the cans were donated to the food pantry at New Life Baptist Church in Concord. Senior Pastor, Tommy Steele, said that they had been praying for more donations in order to be ready for Thanksgiving and our donation was the unexpected answer from the Lord. God is Good! All the Time!

Fall Games 2019

The 6th Annual Fall House Games Competition was the first House Games with 4 Houses in competition! As in previous years, the competition was fierce but filled with silly games, laughter, and great sportsmanship.

For each game, the House leaders had to strategically determine which members should participate based on the skills needed or the willingness of the members to do some of the crazier activities. Each game had the 1st place winner receiving 1 point, 2nd place winner receiving 2pts, 3rd place winner receiving 3pts, and 4th place winner receiving 4pts. The “Ultimate Winner of the Fall House Games” was the House with the lowest number of points.

Throughout the afternoon the points were close between the four Houses, but at the end of the day, House Fides was announced the winner, with House Constantia close behind in second place.

1st place – Fides 38 points

2nd place – Constantia 42 points

3rd place – Sapientia 47 points

4th place – Audacia 50 points

We began the games with the House chant competition, judged by Mrs. Thigpen and Mrs. Russell. While the House chants did not count for points in the Fall Games, they really kicked off the competition with an awesome display of house spirit!

Balloon Smash – It’s a tradition to start off Fall Games with this noisy and crazy game of balloon stomp!

Elephant War – in honor of the new house of elephants, we decided to have the 4 House Captains battle each other with “tusks.”
