2nd Annual Fides Den Party & SG Movie Night for the girls

Upper School Den Party 2017!
The 2nd Annual Fides Den Party was a Howlin’ good time!  This Upper School event incorporated numerous board and video games, with tournaments occurring throughout the night. There was something for everybody to
enjoy!

And the fun continued the next week with an UPPER SCHOOL GIRLS’ MOVIE NIGHT!
A group of the upper school ladies had fun at the school watching Beauty and the Beast and Parent Trap!

4th Quarter Kick Off

The House System kicked off 4th quarter with a fundraiser by celebrating Pi Day (3/14).  Cookie “pies” were available at lunch for purchase ($1 per slice) and the entire school “voted” by choice of pie selected for the House that they wanted to receive an advantage in the next house meeting games.  We learned that CCS grammar school kiddos love the color blue; however, the Audacia members came extra hungry and won out in the end!  (Audacia won 2 game advantages)

Student Government celebrated March Madness with 3 on 3 class tournaments during lunch.  Congratulations to the Freshman class who came out on top!

The Houses each contributed to the CCS March Open House by creating a board promoting their house!  Well done!

The first House Meeting of the 4th quarter continued the March Madness theme with the “Marshmallow Madness” games.  In the first game, each house volunteered a member to hold a cup in their mouth while one of their Advisors tossed marshmallows into it. The cup with the most marshmallows in it at the end of 2 minutes won. Audacia’s advantage in this game was that their Advisor did not have to “shoot” from standing on a chair.  Even though Sapientia protested the final outcome, House Fides was determined the winner. (10pts)

The next game was Marshmallow tennis.  I wish we had pictures of this game because it was quite funny. Audacia’s advantage was that they could select which House went first, second, or third.  Despite the advantage, Sapientia solidly won this game! (10pts)

The next game was a Marshmallow Tower Challenge.  Each house separated into a guys team and a girls team.  They were asked to build the tallest tower they could in 15 minutes using only mini marshmallows and spaghetti.

The designs were each unique and creative; however, the Audacia guys and the Sapientia ladies came in 1st place. (10 points each)

The last challenge was a “Guess how many M&M’s are in the jar!”  Much thought and creative math calculations went into this game.  At the end of the day, Weston Cregger of House Fides was the winner by guessing the number closest to the true amount of 760. (10pts plus the jar of candy)

Student Government concluded the fun week (as well as kicked off a fun St. Patrick’s Day) with another delicious Pancake Breakfast for the entire school.

More fun things to come for 4th quarter….stay tuned!

SG and House Leadership at CCS

It’s hard to believe, but we are now entering the season of CCS Student Government and House leadership elections and interviews for the 2017-18 school year.  In order to make sure that all of the upper school students are informed on what leadership roles are available and what responsibilities each position holds, the current SG and House leaders recently gave a presentation on their experience as leaders during this current school year.  The CCS Student Body President, Evan Prince, opened by sharing the purpose statement of Student Government.

Each of the three distinct houses (Fides, Sapientia, and Audacia) is run by a House Captain and two House Prefects who encourage involvement in community service, academics, athletics, and CCS social events. The current point standing for the Covenant Cup are below.  REMEMBER it is the LOWEST point value that wins the Covenant Cup.  We have 4th quarter and Spring games still to go.  Right now Audacia and Sapientia are tied for 1st place with 7 points each.  And it’s not out of the question for Fides to still maintain their title as champs, but they will have to win 1st place in both 4th quarter and Spring games to do so.  So the pressure is on!  Who will come out on top?

Audacia:1st Qtr- 1pt + 2nd Qtr- 3pts + 3rd Qtr- 1pts + Fall Games- 2pts = 7points

Fides:1st Qtr- 2pts + 2nd Qtr- 2pts + 3rd Qtr- 3pts + Fall Games- 3pts = 10 points

Sapientia:1st Qtr- 3pts + 2nd Qtr- 1pt + 3rd Qtr- 2pts + Fall Games- 1pt = 7points

(In the event of a tie – the winner will be the one with the most Core Value points received over the course of all 4 quarters.)

CCS Students Serve

CCS students give back to the school and to their community all throughout the year.  Below are highlights from some recent service opportunities.

House Fides and House Sapientia spent part of their House meeting time during February making over 75 Valentine cards to be delivered to senior citizens at local nursing homes, reminding them that they are loved and not forgotten. (5pts each)

House Audacia organized a day for its members to come clean out and organize the attic space above the stage for approx. 3hrs on a Saturday.  Thank you!
(54pts community service)

Student Government leaders spent part of their meeting time surprising and blessing the Upper School teachers by cleaning their rooms (emptying trash cans and vacuuming).  Leadership is servanthood.  Thank you, SG, for leading well, by serving others.

Ongoing throughout the year, Student Government tithes a portion of its profits from school events to support the global community through an organization called Kiva.

Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005, with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. They celebrate and support people looking to create a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. Currently the Student Government leaders are helping a young man with his schooling costs in Nigeria as well as supporting local farmers in Haiti and Ghana.
