Because Covid19 prevented us from having the usual leadership election and interview schedule in April, the House System Admin team decided on a new leadership structure for the upcoming 2020-21 school year. Since campaigning, speeches, and elections were not possible, the roles and responsibilities of Student Body President and VP have been transferred to the 4 House Presidents. Each House President will serve as Student Body President for one quarter. And the duties of the SG VP have been transferred to the SG Spirit Prefect. We will still have SG Class Representatives, but they will be elected when school starts back up in the fall. Change is never easy and Covid19 has certainly created a lot of it. However, we are all REALLY excited with this new leadership structure and believe it will serve our school well this coming year.

Live Courageously! Keep the Faith! Pursue Wisdom! And Constantly Remember!
Hello everyone! I hope you are all staying safe and healthy. I wanted to give you all an update on the House System and answer some questions I’ve been getting lately.
First question: Which House won 3rd Quarter?
Well when we left for Spring Break on March 6th, that was the end of 3rd quarter. I tallied up all the points received since January and can now reveal the results for 3rd quarter. BUT first let me highlight the Houses that received the most points in some of the categories.
The House with the most points in the Leadership category was House Sapientia!
The House with the most points in the Social/Spirit category was House Fides!
The House with the most points in the Sports Participation category was House Audacia!
The House with the most points in Community Service category was House Sapientia!
And the House with the most Core Value points was House Fides!
When all those points were added together, the end result for the 3rd Quarter Winner was…
4th Place – House Constantia with 2,190 points
3rd Place – House Sapientia with 2,661 points
2nd Place – House Audacia with 2,685 points
1st Place – House Fides with 3,272 points – CONGRATULATIONS! Well Done!
2nd Question: How will we decide the winner of the Covenant Cup if we have such a “abnormal” socially distant 4th quarter?
So the point standings after 1st semester looked like this chart below. (Remember, for the Covenant Cup prize, the House wants the lowest score.) So you can see below that since House Fides had come in 1st place in both Fall Games and 2nd Quarter then their total had them in the lead at the end of 1st semester.

Fides
Sapientia

When I added in the 3rd Quarter winner points, you can see that Fides is still solidly in the lead with 5 points. Then the House Dean Team plugged in possible numbers to see if it was numerically possible for another House to beat Fides. The only scenario was if Fides were to come in 4th place in both Spring Games and 4th Quarter AND either Audacia or Sapientia were to come in 1st place in both Spring Games and 4th Qtr. But even in that scenario, the points would be tied at 13 points.

So do you remember what breaks the Tie???

So what will I, Mrs. Haycox, do with all the 4th quarter points that I have received so far? Answer – I will add them to 1st quarter next year. Here are some ideas/ways that you can earn points for your House between now and the start of school in the Fall.

Audacia Summer Reading Challenge
3rd Question: Are we going to be able to still have Spring Games?
Sadly no, but as you can see from the charts above, the Spring Games would not have had an effect on the overall Covenant Cup winner. But maybe once the restrictions are lifted, and we can gather in groups larger than 10, classes can organize some fun games like the seniors did last summer.
Until we can gather again, know that you are loved and missed. Thanks for all your support and participation in the CCS House System!! Virtual Hugs to ALL!
The winter sports Pep Rally started with a fun all school dance party!
Then all the students lined up around the outside of the basketball court as the athletes’ names were called out and each ran around the court giving and receiving high 5’s.
Then the SG leaders, led by Maggie Faircloth and Jeremy Kirwin, taught the students how to play a fun “big dice” game of elimination. It was a huge hit!
After the grammar school students were dismissed, the upper school students played a game of dodgeball. Seniors and Teachers vs 7th through 11th graders!
Immediately following the Pep Rally, House Constantia hosted a tailgate in the Commons for all the Houses with tons of food, games, and fellowship!
And a few of the brave students had the chance to challenge the self proclaimed “Ping Pong Master,” our very own Athletic Director – Mr. Parker, in some impressive and intense matches!
Then it was time to go to the gym to cheer on our JV and Varsity Warriors!! GO WARRIORS!!!
LUNCH BUDDIES! Two Thursday’s each month, a few of our Student Government and House leaders visit with the 1st and 2nd grade classes for the last 10-15 minutes of their lunch! They fellowship and laugh together!
House Audacia collected 300 books in their book drive for Promising Pages!! Each book was carefully cleaned and stickered with notes of encouragement from the members of Audacia. This generosity of CCS students and parents gives children in need the opportunity to experience the joy of reading. THANK you to all who donated and participated!!
CCS had 65 students, faculty, family members, and alums signed up to serve at Operation Christmas Child this December. It was an amazing time for all!!
The boxes processed while we were serving were shipping out to Uganda.
Serving 5 hours on your feet calls for a little break to refuel and fellowship with friends.
Lastly for a little fun, I attached one of the videos from the Senior’s Rube Goldberg project for their Physics class, taught by the wonderful Mrs. Quillen. Watch and enjoy! (Note: the videos embedded in the House blog do not show up if you are reading the post via email, so go to the blog and check it out!)
