Fall Games 2019

The 6th Annual Fall House Games Competition was the first House Games with 4 Houses in competition! As in previous years, the competition was fierce but filled with silly games, laughter, and great sportsmanship.

For each game, the House leaders had to strategically determine which members should participate based on the skills needed or the willingness of the members to do some of the crazier activities. Each game had the 1st place winner receiving 1 point, 2nd place winner receiving 2pts, 3rd place winner receiving 3pts, and 4th place winner receiving 4pts. The “Ultimate Winner of the Fall House Games” was the House with the lowest number of points.

Throughout the afternoon the points were close between the four Houses, but at the end of the day, House Fides was announced the winner, with House Constantia close behind in second place.

1st place – Fides 38 points

2nd place – Constantia 42 points

3rd place – Sapientia 47 points

4th place – Audacia 50 points

We began the games with the House chant competition, judged by Mrs. Thigpen and Mrs. Russell. While the House chants did not count for points in the Fall Games, they really kicked off the competition with an awesome display of house spirit!

Balloon Smash – It’s a tradition to start off Fall Games with this noisy and crazy game of balloon stomp!

Elephant War – in honor of the new house of elephants, we decided to have the 4 House Captains battle each other with “tusks.”

Planning for College

For our current Juniors and Seniors first semester is full of college applications, college interviews and college visits! Our Seniors have spent countless hours writing essays and preparing to hit submit on college applications. Now they are applying for scholarships and Honors programs throughout the county, while also interviewing and visiting the schools that are at the top of their lists! It is a busy season indeed!

Some college visits included meeting up with CCS Alumni, like Daniel Haycox at Lipscomb University.

At the school, the Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors have all enjoyed meeting Admission Representatives from Hillsdale, Samford, Campbell, and more, as the college reps have visited CCS to get to know our students and answer any questions about their University!

Our seniors have been VERY busy!  Here is an update on their progress.

So far our seniors have applied to a total of 48 different colleges. – 21 colleges in the state of NC8 colleges in SC, 7 colleges in TN, 3 colleges in VA, and 1 college each in AL, CA, CT, FL, GA, IN, MD, OH, and WV. And celebration is everywhere as the acceptances are rolling in fast!

Brookdale Senior Living

House Audacia hosted a wonderful evening of music at Brookdale Senior Living Home! CCS students and teachers, from multiple Houses, came out and played for the residents at Brookdale.

Special thanks to House Audacia service prefect Sydney Himpel for planning and organizing this sweet service opportunity!

And thanks to all the CCS families that came out to support our musicians and to fellowship with the guests.

House Pumpkin Carving Fun

During House meetings on Tuesday, October 15th, we decided to engage in a little pumpkin carving fun! Each house was given three pumpkins and asked to create a pumpkin that showed their House spirit, that was humorous, and that displayed creativity!

Each house met, devised a plan, and began carving!

After the carving was complete, the pumpkins were put on display for the Grammar School students to vote on!

And the winners are:

Grammar School Favorite – House Fides’ Turtle

Second Place Grammar School Favorite- House Sapentia’s Mike Wazowski

Most House Spirit- House Constantia’s Elephant

Most Creative- House Audacia’s Lion

Most Humorous- House Sapentia’s Make a Funny Face

Powder Puff Fall 2019

Blue skies, 70 degrees, late October, and friendly competition makes for a successful Powder Puff game.

Both teams played well but the Purple team ended up the victor. It’s hard to tell at Powder Puff who is having more fun…the players or the cheerleaders? For the parents, there is a lot laughter, cheering, and confusion over what call the Refs are making.

Consensus for next year is a little more coaching of the girls before the game on what the rules are and making sure the Refs aren’t related to any of the players…haha! 🙂
