Warrior Camp 2019

CCS’s teambuilding retreat is called WARRIOR CAMP!  It is a great time to get out in God’s beautiful creation to make new friends, to strengthen existing friendships, to learn to work together as a House, and to fellowship with classmates. This year was the first year that we had FOUR Houses to participate.

The day began with some brief instructions from Mrs. Haycox and then a group picture! Once the plans for the day were laid it was time to break into Houses for the first House meetings of the year and the first House meeting EVER for Constantia!

House Constantia

House Audacia

House Fides

House Sapientia

Now that the Houses have all met and made a plan- LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

The House leaders divided each of their House members into two teams, giving us a total of eight House teams. Each team competed in our round robin House game including volleyball, basketball, gaga ball, and kickball!

While playing in the round robin event team spirit emerged, friendships grew, and encouragement abounded! We took a quick break for lunch then the 7th-9th grades had some lake time while the 10th-12th graders had some free time.

Then it was time for our final Warrior game, which has become a tradition at Warrior Camp! The teams met, listened to the instructions, and made a plan! The Army, Airfare, Navy, and Marines all took their places!

Mr. Leland demonstrated the “Army crawl”

After our last game the 10th-12th graders enjoyed the lake while the 7th-9th graders had fellowship and free time!

Warrior Camp was a wonderful way to begin our 2019-2020 school year!!

House Inductions

The first day of school was spent in a Foundations seminar filled with inspirational speakers, review of the CCS handbook, reminders about the dress code, etc. and ended with beautiful and moving faculty blessings over all the students.  But before the students were dismissed, the new students participated in the House Induction Ceremony.

The House leaders and advisors came forward to introduce themselves and share their House fable of origin. (You can read about each House by clicking “House Descriptions” in the black menu bar above. That assumes you are on the blog http://covenantclassicalhouseblog.org/and not reading this via email.)

Andrew Faircloth reading House Constantia’s fable of origin, for the first time ever!
Jonathan Haycox reading the House Fides fable of origin.
Tyler Hicks reading House Audacia’s fable of origin.
Lee Williamsen reading House Sapentia’s fable of origin.

Let the House inductions begin!

First we had to “build” House Constantia. Mrs. Haycox announced all of the House Constantia members who chose to serve by sacrificing/leaving their original House and switching to start the new House.

Mrs Haycox began with the senior members. Luke Richardson was the first member of House Constantia!

Once the 4th House was built, it was time to officially begin House inductions! The Houses found their corners and Mrs. Haycox began the House inductions for our new upper school students!

Then Mrs. Haycox called each student one-by-one to come forward so she could announce which House they were being welcomed into.

Samuel Davidson was our last House member, and only new senior to be inducted!

We are so thankful that the Lord provided so many new students and families for the House System to begin 2019-2020 with FOUR Houses!

A New House!

We are so very excited to introduce our 4th House to the Covenant Classical School House System!!!

4th Quarter Winner and Announcement of the 2019 Covenant Cup Winner

The CCS Awards Ceremony is the time when both the 4th Quarter Winner as well as the Covenant Cup Winner are announced.

This year, the 4th quarter winner will also be the Covenant Cup winner.

The Quarter Winners are determined by the House that has accumulated the most points from academics, athletics, service, social, spirit, and character/core value demonstrations.

The CCS Covenant Cup winner is determined a bit differently than the Quarter Winners. It is not a sum of points accumulated over each quarter that determines the winner, but rather the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd placement that each House has in the quarters as well as the placement in the Fall and Spring House Games. It is not only important to have the most 1st place wins, but equally important is to not have too many 3rd place finishes. So the winner is determined by the House with the most 1st place wins and fewer 2nd and 3rd place positions.

At the start of the 4th Quarter both Fides and Sapientia were tied in the Covenant Cup points with 8 points each.

Even though House Audacia knew that mathematically it was impossible for them to win 4th Quarter and the Covenant Cup, that did not mean they gave up fighting to finish strong! With their heads held high, they finished with a total of 1,637 points for 4th quarter.

The 4th quarter points were tight between House Sapientia and House Fides with only 50 points between them but in the end House Sapientia came out on top!

4th Quarter Winner House Sapientia with 2,332 points. 2nd place House Fides with 2,282 points.

Spring Games 2019

(Please forgive the lateness of this post.)

The Spring House Games (aka Upper School field day) are an exciting display of House and School Spirit.  The students came ready to compete and have fun.

The morning started with each House in their “home room” getting themselves decorated in House specific colored face paint, streamers, pompoms, etc.

Then all Houses congregated in the Commons to get the instructions for the first game, an Escape Room type game with critical thinking “zoom” pictures and word puzzles.

Split into teams A, B, and C, the students lined up as a “train” to race to the appropriate room to solve a puzzle together quickly and then return to tag the next team/train. This game was 4 challenges in one. The Houses could get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in overall speed, as well as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the 3 different puzzles.

Below are pictures from the other games/challenges from the rest of the morning.

Spokes on a Wheel –

Three different Tower Building Challenges – Balloons, Cards, and Marshmallow

Warrior Wheelbarrow Race with Back to Back Balloon Pop

Listen to your Captain – Blindfolded Cup Pick Up

Sitting Dodgeball

Three Legged Race with Watermelon Eating Challenge

The final games of Birdie On a Perch and Water Balloon Toss are sadly not pictured. And while the points were being tallied the Upper School students joined with the grammar school students for an all school Dance Party!

And the Winner of 2019 Spring House Games was … House Sapientia!!

House Sapientia – 42 pts
House Fides – 48 pts
House Audacia – 53 pts

(Lowest score wins – like in golf – meaning that the House that had the most first place finishes in the various games takes home the prize)

Sapientia not only “pursues wisdom” but they also purse Victory! Congratulations!
