Nothing says fall like a trip to the Corn Maze.  The 7th-12th grade spent a fun evening of games, corn hole, and getting lost in a maze.

And with the unseasonably warm temperatures, they still enjoyed s’mores by the campfire.

Another fun fall event was the Fides Den Night!

Due to being at Parkwood, we haven’t had the opportunity to have the pumpkin carving contest during a House meeting, and so we decided to use some of the time during the Fides Den Party.

The Fides “howling wolf” pumpkin was voted by the CCS grammar school to take 1st place. Audacia’s Cinderella’s carriage came in 2nd place.  And Audacia’s Jack-o-lantern took 3rd place.

A Core Values story from Mr. Leland:

I can remember how terrifying it was to talk with my teachers in school–especially teachers that  I loved and respected. The more you look up to someone the more you can fear disappointing them or letting them down, and it takes a great deal of courage to confront a teacher if some conflict arises. Most students run to their parents and complain to them, rather than following the pattern laid out for us in the Scriptures and talking to the person who has offended them. Recently, a student came to me with a complaint about something that had happened in our class that had bothered her; and though she was scared to do so, she took courage, came to me with her concern and talked with me about it. We wept together, asked forgiveness and forgave each other for our failures, and parted with a deeper love than before. This young woman’s humility, courage, repentance, love, forgiveness and resolve absolutely blew me away, and reminded me once more that the students that I teach are indeed helping me to work out my salvation with fear and trembling. I am so proud of this young lady, and I hope to imitate her when I am put into similar circumstances.

Spirit Week kicked off with PINK OUT for Breast Awareness and “Middle Part” (hairstyle) Monday!

Emma Stapleton (Audacia) and Ben Bare (Sapientia) were most impressive in their pink outfits and beautiful middle part hairstyles and therefore chosen for Spirit Court.

Tuesday was Hawaiian Day.

Parker and Elisia of Audacia looked to have just come back from Hawaii and therefore chosen to be on the Spirit Court. The students also had a chance to play a game of 4 Corners and “Captain Says.”

Captain Says is similar to Simon Says but with some added twists.  Some of the commands are ship related and require more than one person to complete.

There is rowboat (3 people), starfish (5 people), captain’s ball (2 people), and octopus (4 people).

Other funny favorites were hoist the sail and hit the deck!!

Wednesday was BLACKOUT day and everyone participated in this theme.     Johannah (Fides) and Jack (Audacia) took the Spirit Court prize.

Wednesday was also the first Senior Luncheon put on by the Senior Mamas.  The room was beautifully decorated and the food was delicious.  Such a fun time of fellowship for the seniors, their teachers, and mothers.

Thursday was College/Jersey Day.

Tabitha (Sapientia) in all her NC State garb and Peyton (Fides) with this stuffed Duke blue devil captured the Spirit Court prize.

Friday was Class Theme Day.

The 7th graders (not pictured because they chose not to compete!) dressed in CCS colors of red, black, and while.

The 8th graders chose AMERICA as their theme.

The 9th graders dressed as Mathletes vs Athletes.

The 10th grade chose CHRISTMAS DAY as their theme.

The 11th grade picked the 80’s.

And the seniors dressed a hillbillies! But it was those big hair, denim on denim, colorful Juniors that stole the show and captured the prize for Spirit Court!

Well Done!  The total points for the Spirit Week for each House was Audacia 64 points,  Fides 82 points, and Sapientia 88 points.

Spirit Week also kicked off the Houses Service Projects for the year.  Audacia is collecting socks (used or new and they don’t have to be in pairs), mittens, and hats for The Odd Sock ministry.  Fides is collecting soda cans.  And Sapientia is collecting the soda tabs for Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.

There are recepticals at Parkwood and the school.  Please remember to start bringing socks, cans, and tabs in each week.  Thank you!

House Sapientia kicked of the 1st House event of the school year for the Upper School with a Finding Dory Movie Night! 

 
Bean bag chairs, blankets, blow up mattresses, pillows, couches, and sports chairs created a comfortable space.

Plenty of pepperoni and cheese pizzas, sodas, and snacks were on hand. It was a great turnout!!!  Those in attendance said it was “the best Sapientia movie night yet!”  The movie was cute…even if it was the 3rd, 4th, or 5th time most had seen it.  And Sapientia Social Prefect, Callie Mahaley, did a fabulous job organizing the event!
