Making More Memories – March 2019

March Madness means different things to different people. To most it probably makes them think of their favorite college basketball team and the challenge of figuring out brackets with the hopes of winning the money pot. To me, it means the students are starting to realize that the school year is flying by at such a maddening pace that they want to make the most of every minute through scheduling all sorts of fun memory making events so this Student Life Coordinator can feel a bit crazy trying to keep up with them. HA!

With spring sports in full swing, the month of March also filled up with various college representatives visiting campus, a four day Spring Break, SG/House leadership applications due, Pie Day, Thirsty Thursdays, Covenant’s Got Talent practices and performance, trip to Raleigh for 8th-12th, trip to Sound to Sea for 6th and 7th, CCS upper school classes 3-on-3 basketball tournament, and Powder Puff! Below are some pictures from the various events along with the House points acquired where applicable. Enjoy!

In March representatives from Garner-Webb University, Campbell University, Pensacola Christian College, and South Eastern University visited during lunch to allow students to learn more about their college. Students earn House points by coming to the table, asking good questions, and showing respect and hospitality to our guests. Plus talking with admission counselors at various schools is an important skill to practice that will definitely help them as they continue their college discerning process. Audacia 5pts, Fides 15pts, Sapientia 20pts

2nd Annual Covenant’s Got Talent was a big success! Our CCS students are so talented. We have musicians, dancers, comedians, and singers. I know it was hard for the judges to pick the winners. Audacia 55pts, Fides 65pts, Sapientia 45pts.

In Raleigh, the students started the day with science by visiting UNC Chapel Hill’s planetarium for a great lesson on astronomy. The students then participated in a science demonstration. Lunch was in the Chapel Hill dining hall.

After lunch the trip changed to a history lesson with the students visiting the Bennett Place State Historic Site, which was the site of the last surrender of a major Confederate army in the American Civil War, when Joseph E. Johnston surrendered to William T. Sherman.

In the spirit of March Madness, the 8th-12th graders hosted a 3-on-3 basketball competition. Those that participated got House points. The games were hilarious!

And in the end, the seniors were defeated by the sophomores. Audacia 32pts, Fides 12pts, Sapientia 19pts

Due to weather, Powder Puff was rescheduled twice, but we finally picked a day when the sun was shining and the temperature was perfect for football.

Word on the street is that the teams were a bit lopsided giving the purple team an impressive win and the pink team a crushing defeat. But all had fun, no one got hurt, and laughter, smiles, and great sportsmanship was on display! Audacia 16pts, Fides 22pts, Sapientia 18pts

House Audacia used the month of March to show everyone that they still have a lot of “roar” left in them and that their school and house spirit will not be silenced! They hosted a Pi Day on 3.14 by selling pies as a fundraiser for student scholarships. Each Thursday they are hosting another scholarship fundraiser called Thirsty Thursday where students can bring $1 for a lemonade or sweet tea during lunch. And one of their two amazing Advisors, Mrs. Quillen, made awesome Lion Magnets on a 3D printer and surprised each House member with a magnet and a note of encouragement inside their lockers. Well Done! School Spirit 45pts and House Spirit 25pts
